An organization can be viewed in two ways:
1) How entity - a group of people with a common purpose, united by a set of relationships (authority, responsibility, communication and coordination)
2) How activities - the determination of resources, activities, tasks and relationships necessary to a group of people to achieve the objectives
The organizational structure consists of:
- Liability
- Lines of authority
- Relationships
Define the organizational structure of an organization means to establish how the work is divided between people, what are the tasks and what are the relationships.
But what are the main activities to be done to build an organization? They are:
1) define a formal structure that the optimal use of resources (material and human)
2) group the various activities and assign the responsibility for leadership and coordination to a manager
3) establish the relationships between the various groups that carry out different activities (functions)
4) assign operational responsibilities, duties and responsibilities required to achieve the objectives
